Legalities and Terms of Use

General Terms

Use of services
(Forward and Reverse Geocoding, Batch Geocoding, Geoparsing, IP Address Geocoding, Location Address Autocomplete, Geofence API)
comes with certain terms and conditions.

An account is required to use the unthrottled API at various rate plans, with a base plan rate limit of up to 10 requests per second.

The throttled API may be used by all unauthenticated users with a rate limit of up to 10 requests per second from all users combined.

All users agree to restrict usage to our API specifications and within their rate limits.

Registration for use of the API implies agreement with these terms.

We reserve the right to change the service or any of its various functionalities at any time.

Your use of the service does not imply any form of partnership or joint venture.

When using this service, you agree to abide by the laws of Canada and of your country.
You agree not to use the service for any illicit or illegal activities or in any way which violates these terms.

Data Policy uses only open data sources
, including but not limited to OpenStreetMap, Geonames, Osmnames,, UK Ordnance Survey,,, PSMA Geocoded National Address File (Australia), etc.

You may cache our geocodes, display results on any map, store them however you want for as long as you want, use them however you want, even commercially - unless you wish to resell our services.

To clarify this last point, you may store and use the data we provide in any way you see fit, provided you do not re-sell these data as is (we do however provide reseller licenses on a case by case basis. Contact us for more information.)

Our "any way you see fit" data use policy gives non-reseller customers, (among other things) the ability to do the following:

  • locally store geocode results
  • use the results in further spatial analysis
  • create derivative works using the geocodes
  • publish the latitudes and longitudes publicly
  • overlay the latitudes and longitudes on third-party basemaps
  • ... etc

Any further questions about our Data Policy must be directed to our customer service department in writing.

We do not store any personally identifiable information about you.
An email address is required to create an account with us and it will only be used to communicate with you about the service, nothing else. No personally identifiable information is collected by our registration functions.

As to the data you upload/send to our API, we periodically remove it after it has been geocoded. You may remove it yourself as soon as you have downloaded the processed version on the premium batch geocoding API. If you anonymously upload data to our server you do not have access to anonymously delete anything, but it will be deleted anyways in due course.

So, as far as GDPR goes, we have been compliant from day one.

Our service is hosted in the cloud
with AWS. Depending on your location, a server closest to you will complete your request.

The data is provided by our service on an "as is" basis.

We provide no warranties or guarantees of any kind as to the correctness or usability of the data.

By using the service you agree that is not responsible, in any way, for any consequences resulting from use of information provided by the service.

Customers pay per usage by obtaining credits/credit plans for API access and may cancel at any time for any reason. Cancellation does not entitle customers to a refund of any fees already paid.

Unlimited credits API Access Monthly Subscription customers are required to keep API usage within the posted rate limits (up to 10 requests per second per one base plan) and may cancel at any time.

Paying users (per credit, or unlimited credit accounts) are required not to share their API key with other parties and not to use their access keys to launch Denial of Service Attacks on our API Ports.

For AWS Unlimited & Unthrottled Geocode Server clients, the service may by cancelled by stopping or terminating any running instances. No refunds are possible for any AWS server usage and software licensing fees before a server is stopped/terminated.

We have no obligation to continue providing service to any account on our free trial tier.

In special circumstances, such as, if an account user repeatedly engages in activity that runs contrary to fair use and refuses to modify their usage patterns after repeated warnings, (for eg, if an account damages the service via a DDos attack), we reserve the right to cancel service to such customers at any time and will provide a pro-rata refund for the remaining amount of the current billing period.

No Refunds are provided under any other circumstances, but you may try out the free API before you buy. The quality of data in both free and premium APIs is the same.

We reserve the right to cancel the account of any user we, at our sole discretion, deem to be abusing our service.

Abuse may include but is not just limited to: reselling our services without our permission, flooding our API ports with bogus requests, or sending considerably more requests than posted rate limits.

Also, we may block any unauthenticated user of our free API if we determine such usage to be in violation of these terms.

We reserve the right to change these terms and conditions at any time.

We may change our fees at any time by posting a new fee structure.

Changes take effect immediately from the time of publication. Continued use of the service implies acceptance of changes.
